![]() A short History & Description of Urban Art' ![]() Urban Art is literally the most colorful element of Hip Hop. Soon, Doze, Graff, Rick/Crime, Shandu, Zender, Zodiac, Duke, Seen, GeoOne, Frame, Make, Hex, Slick, Toons,Cre-8, and Keo are a few Legends. Many thousands of years ago our ancient ancestors would write on rocks and walls to preserve the memory of themselves and their life histories. It is human nature to want to make a name for one self and/or to want to "leave a mark" in one way or another. Urban Art became the perfect vehicle that many inner city youth found in which to express themselves. Urban Art first began on trains, walls, paper, canvas, signs, poles, Bridges, trash cans, and piece books. Urban Art is a powerful way in which to express and find release for inner emotions, thoughts, and feelings. Urban Art is the thought, the "sketch", the "visuals", the "fillings", the "outlines", the bright colors, the "shining", the "mixtures", the "characters", the "backdrops", the "designs within the lettering", the "straight lines", the "positions of the letters" and then the "style". It is the "trigger finger"and the mastery of "can control". All of this, and also the "tip" of the spray can is equally important. Urban Art can be "freestyle" or planned out. The best urban artists have successfully developed themselves and become well respected through many avenues including art galleries, commercial art, fine art, 3D sculptures and tattoo art. All of these aspects combine to make this element a true work of art. | |
